| The Caribbean Music Expo
(CME) 2000 takes place November 29 - December 3 at Renaissance Jamaica Grande in Ocho Rios. It is a veritable feast of information, economic opportunity and entertainment structured to develop and promote the sustainability of Caribbean Music.
Through a conference, a trade show and concerts, showcasing Caribbean Artistes in all their creativity and musical styles, music practitioners and corporate entities will be provided with a full range of opportunities from the creative to the legal and financial aspects of Caribbean music. Among the 900 attendees at last year's expo were representatives of major record companies such as Virgin Records, University Records, VP Records, MJJ/Sony, Abdala from Cuba, CD Systems from Colombia. |
Media houses represented included Billboard Magazine, Vibe Magazine, Music Business International and Black Radio Exclusive. Beenie Man, Son Damas (Cuba) Wyclef Jean, Tanto Metro and Devonte, Square One featuring Alison Hinds from Barbados and Tony Rebel were some of the artistes showcased at CME 99.
In addition to the record labels, media houses and artistes, a variety of companies participated as exhibitors at the expo. Some of these were companies involved in the distribution of music and the providers of financial services and consumer goods.
