Reviewing CME 2000 Showcase

As plans for the second annual Caribbean Music Expo hit high gear, the organizers  have now confirmed that the beautiful Mahogany Beach in Ocho Rios will be the venue for two big beach concerts.

The decision to move the CME beach parties from James Bond Beach to Mahogany Beach came as a result of the fact that the James Bond Beach facility will be unavailable due to an upgrading exercise schedule at the time of CME 2000.

The CME 2000 concerts promise a feast of music from the French, Spanish and English speaking Caribbean to complement the music business conferences and the trade show slated for the Renaissance Jamaica Grande.

Live music lovers will be treated to a feast of Caribbean sounds with Reggae, Salsa, Merengue, Dancehall, Soca, Hip Hop, R & B and some alternative rock.Concerts will be held daily from November 29 through to December 3 at venues such as the Little Pub, the Renaissance Jamaica Grande and Mahogany Beach.  The Mahogany Beach events will be the highlight of the CME 2000 concerts.

There will be two big concerts at Mahogany Beach.  The first on the night  of Friday December 1 and the second a day time event on Sunday December 3.  On Friday December 1 CME presents “ NIGHT VIBES “ under the stars at 9pm with Yogi, Zinc Fence, Dingo and special guests Steely and Clevie with Chris Combette of French Guyana and Evette from Jamaica.

This will be one of the very rare live concert performances by Steely and Clevie. The December 3 concert at Mahogany is billed as the Caribbean Beach Party and will be a day time event  headlined by the hottest reggae band in the world today, Morgan Heritage, as well as the Marley brothers Stephen, Damian and Julian. This show will also feature Junior Kelly as well as Reel Kila from Martinique and Guadeloupe, Rahzel of the Roots and Solomon from Trinidad and Tobago among others.  This event will be hosted by top international U.S. based performers.

The CME concerts will also feature performances by Bushman, Chrisinti, Soul  Case, Glacia Robinson and Oku Onuora from Jamaica, Bayanga from Puerto Rico, Eddy Francois from Haiti, the Orange Sky from Trinidad, Big Fat Hen from Panama and Desire from Barbados among many others.  The concerts have been scheduled so that there will be no time clashes between the three venues.

In recent meetings held in Ocho Rios discussions were had with Messrs. Dunlop and Harris of Mahogany Beach, Keith Foote of The Little Pub and David Ellis of Renaissance Jamaica Grande, all of whom welcomed the CME concerts to their venues and pledged their support to the event. As was the case last year the CME concerts will be carried live on the Internet.
